Email I got today. Not sure who he was trying to reach...

Hello Ed

I have been unable to contact the VT chapter of the Land Rover and Range Rover Club so I thought that you might be able to forward this message to the appropriate person there.

I apologize for the intrusion but I thought that your car club and its members might be interested in helping out with the Tour of the Battenkill and Tour of the Dragons bicycle races. For the bike races, we need pace cars and wheel cars that lead and follow, respectively, the racers around the course. Additionally the pace cars serve as the front-of-the-pack notice to the public that a bicycle race is following. We also have State Police vehicles at the front of each 'wave' (group of categories) of racing cyclists.

It's an easy job to do, an awesome way to watch the excitement of a bike race, and a terrific reason to take out your Land Rover or Range Rover and go for a nice 70 mile drive. We provide each vehicle with an insurance binder and reimburse the drivers for expenses.

The Tour of the Battenkill starts and finishes in Cambridge, NY and there are races both on Sat 4/13 and Sun 4/14.
The Tour of the Dragons starts and finishes in Bennington, VT on Sat 5/4, and
the start and finish is in Manchester on Sun 5/5.

We would love to have the Car Club involved and perhaps, if there were enough cars participating, we could put in a nice plug for the group.

If this would be of interest to your members, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Thank you very much,
Jim

I have done the Battenkill. Should be some Youtube vids of it up somewhere. Take your regular street bike and now race/ride on not just the roads of upstate NY but the gravel and dirt roads. It is a shit load of fun.

The few that know about it thought I was nuts, I just thought it was cool as shit. First time I did it I nearly died cause I did it with barely any conditioning. One part of the dirt road at the bottom of the hill, the farmers or state had filled the road in with river rocks around 8 to 12 inchs I shit you not. Kids at the top of the hill told me that a lot of bikers had stopped and walked it. Told them fuck that and just kept peddling and went through it, made it by the bare of my teeth.

Im not doing it this year cause I hurt my back while doing my conditioning for the race ironically.

My friend did this and had a great time. Sounds cool but I won't be back from Boulder yet.
