| So here's my dilemma...
My '00 Disco has a fair amount of rust on the frame, enough that i doubt it will pass its next inspection(feb '12). it has about 3 holes, all up near the catalytic converters. one of them i can almost put my whole hand in! also, we (my mechanic buddy and myself) found several soft spots all along the rest of the frame.
my mechanic thinks i should offload the truck pronto, and just look for another one that isnt haggard underneath. the biggest problem i have with that, is that i wont be able to get anything close to what i've put into it, which is usually the case with any modified vehicle.
do any of you guys have rust issues with your trucks? im looking for insight on dealing with this. once they start to rust is it a lost cause that's going to keep getting worse? or should i just patch up what i can, and try to keep it together for the rest of its days?

| Thats not the first time I have heard of a D2 rusting behind the cats. That seems to be a problem area for them for us living in the rust belt. I dont know how Ny is for patching frames and safety inspections but it can be done. I know in Pa it can be patched as long as its done to their standards (proper metal gauge, patch panel cut angles around 45*, and where its located (cant patch at suspension or bumper mounting points)). I would say take a screw driver and poke at the frame front to rear top to bottom and see how baf it is, if it wasnt for all the electrical system I would swap out for a donor frame. If worse comes to worse I call shotgun on that bad ass sling/tow strap lol. | |

| some pics would be useful if you could snap a couple.
you really have 3 options
sell try to fix swap frame
If you sell - you already know how thats going to go.. Depending on selling price my g/f might be interested.
and if you try to fix most likely it's going to cost a lot of money and you're never going to fully fix the issue.
Not sure how much a frame costs but you could have one galvanized and you would never have to worry about it again.

| How is the body? Door jams?
If the rust is somewhat localized, I would get it repaired. Just be sure you have it done properly and run the thing.
Selling a truck with a rusted frame will be very hard if they see it and if you sell it without disclosing it, shame on you.
Another option is to buy a stock truck and swap your stuff over. Then part out what is good off the rusted truck. I bought a rusted truck with a bunch of goodies on it. I put all the goodies on my truck and sold over $1000 worth of stock parts off the rust truck.

| ^^^^^^^^
everything above the frame is solid. i think she's immaculate other than the frame. perfect interior, all that jazz.
im really thinking that patching it would be my best option. i wouldn't be able to sell someone else a "lemon" and sleep at night. the dealer that sold me this one really fucked me hard with all the shit he pulled.

Yup, I think you have your answer. I would try a weld shop as it will probably be less expensive than a body shop. We have a ton of Amish weld/fab shops around here that do that stuff for cheap...

Sounds like a admin problem to me... you spent $45 to wheel at Rausch for one day, we got two days of wheeling and camping for $50 at Mettowee! did you put your HD steering kit in yet? or did you wheel with a shovel handle steering your truck?
