| So, looks like i've got a bad O2 Sensor, may have something to do with being submerged in water all the time and not driven enough to dry it out. I keep resetting the CEL but it keeps coming back.
Anyway. When i had my GTO dyno tuned they shut off the rear O2 sensors (heads/cam/catless long tubes etc)... so I'm looking at doing the same thing for the LR to gain what appears to be maybe 10-15hp according to Columbia Rovers, but mainly to keep the O2's from interfering as they have been.
2 questions.
1 - anyone know of a company that will reflash/tune a land rover?
2 - is this a viable option for keeping the O2 sensors from causing CEL and running rich?
edit. .. looks like you can get O2 sensors for $65 ... for the price i could prob buy about 10 of them for what someone would charge to dyno tune this pig. screw it.

| I would leave the O2's and look into some hedman or similar headers. P38's have actual headers as well but not sure if they fit a D2.. If anybody knows how to do the ECU stuff it would be PT Schram. I would just be scared to mess with the OD's and have it run rich all the time.. making your gas mileage even worse for a marginal performance gain.. Not to mention if you run rich constantly it can lead to overheating our aluminum engines worst enemy....
The only real way to change engine performance in these trucks are.. from least to most... exhaust/headers, over sized crower cam like a 229-230 or 4.6 swap or rebuild with internals.. OR just swap diff gearing or the more expensive (unless you get lucky) transfer case gearing at 1.4 or 1.6 - not sure if you can get 1.6's in the us..

| The rear o2 sensors don't affect angine performance, they only check the exhaust to make sure the cats are working. You can try using an "o2 simulator", and remove the rear ones. Its a little electronic device that gives a signal of a functioning rear o2. People typically run them to after removing the cats. I used one on my honda a few years back. | |

| i'm not so much looking for a performance gain as much as I was looking for a "cure" to O2 sensors going bad and causing truck to (reportedly) run rich, thus affecting my mileage.
I'm getting about 10mpg which is ... pretty bad. Mostly driving around town etc. but it seems to be worse now that the O2 has been tripped. I've reset it a bunch and it keeps coming back so it either unplugged which i'll be checking saturday, or its bad ... hopefully one of those is the cause and not a clogged/collapsed cat. If its a cat, i'd probably do some gutting.
If i'm wrong in thinking any of this plz let me know, i'm just applying what seemed to be consistent with my GM vehicles.

| i get about nine in my d1 with no bad o2's. What brian said is right. If your rear o2 sensors are bad it has nothing to do with running rich or running lean, the only sensors that monitor air/fuel are you PRE CAT (upstream sensors). One of two things is hapening. You have bad downstream sensors and your wrongfully attributing bad MPG to it, because they have nothing to do with it. or you're upstreams are fouled and you've mistakenly determined that it;s your downstream o2's that are bad. you dont need down streams. they're only for emissions to make sure the cats are operatinig, so if you wanted to go with a contact closure of a emulator, that'd be fine (you might have to pop them back in for emissions). But if it's an mpg thing, unless your upstreams are bad, you're looking in the wrong place......brah | |
