| Was picking stuff for a upcoming oil change at a local parts/4x4 store. and seen they have a smittybilt 8k on sale. Will a 8K winch cut it for a Disco 2? In the process of doing research now I know nothing about winches and its all greek to me at this point . I dont really see using it for extened winching. just here and there. | |

| I have a Chinese no-name 8k that came on my Defender, that thing has pulled my ass out of mud up to the sliders a few times and still runs strong. | |

| is the engo watrns entry line? Ihad a warn rep tell a buddy recently to stay away from their entry level winches because they suck. Cheap parts meant to compete with Harbor freight etc, cheap parts=stripped gear teeth and the what have you. Wait an extra month and save the extra scratch | |

| An 8k will work fine just invest in a good heavy duty snatch block. | |

| Tabor was warn's entry level. About engo: - Quote :
- Spawned from the former CFO of Mile Marker winches, Engo is a new up-and–coming winch manufacturer with an emphasis on quality, value, and customer service. Engo has a full line of recovery winches available from 3,000 to 12,000 pounds.
The winch I was looking at is a 9000lb winch. And it has a lifetime mechanical warranty, like warn. http://thejeephut.com/?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=64the 9k winch is 289, and the 10k is $314 shipped.

| i have the 8k lb Warn on my truck with a Warn snatch, and a 100' synthetic line. the only time i had trouble was when it was completely under icy water. and a chunk of ice had taken out the solenoid earlier in the day. it still worked but was smoking pretty good and at the time i didnt have the snatch hooked up. | |

- I was planning on picking up a smittybilt this year, but after reading an article about in four wheeler "multi winch shootout" I think I may order an engo. It fared the best out of all the winches, although it seems the scoring was skewed slighly to favor warn. I've also seen the engo's priced the same as smitty's, under 300$ shipped.
http://www.fourwheeler.com/techarticles/129_1107_massive_multi_winch_shootout/index.html
I was looking for an article by non bias 3rd party all the info i found was from manufactures. The place has Smittybilt 8k, 10k, a 10k w/ syn line and hawse fairlead and 12k. and every damn search on forums brought up people with 8k in their signatures. Thanks guys

| Typically, you want a winch capacity double what your vehicle weighs. Snatch blocks do help as long as the situation allows for use of one. Best winches in my opinion is Warn then Ramsey. There are a lot of China winches out there that work fine for a bit, but hard use can take a toll on them. | |

| I also have a superwinch and a t max both are foreign made and have worked fine so far. My old Ramsey 8k was a beast though, it always worked no matter the condition. I have an old 8274 that I need to rebuild a little too, but thats going on my 47 jeep.
I have a line on a 12k warn powerplant for $800 cash if anyone is interested, still new in box, retails for around $1700.

| I would love to pick up an 8274, but it's pretty tough to fit one on a disco, without either having a front bumper that sticks out too far, or completely hacking the grill up to the hood. | |

Is the powerplant the one with air compressor built in? Yup. It's sweet. It is a bit big, so bumper compatibility may be an issue for some.

| Guess what im trying to figure out is if the pump is independant from the winch or does the winch motor power the pump too. | |

| Looks like thats not gonna be a good option for me right now. It uses the winch motor for the pump motor. Plus my Viair has a lot more cfm then the winch does. Oh well, good deal for someone looking for that type of setup. I was hopeing they were 2 separate units, I can see me flipping the switch to operate the lockers and end up spooling out half the cable before I realise what Im doing lol | |
