It would take a lot of money to make it able to do that
Not to mention all the money you would be spending on tires

Not really, all their weight is already in the front, they're not full time 4wd like the newer rovers, it just takes enough engine to break the tires loose.

Actually I am pretty sure Forward Control 101's are full time FWD and do not have lock out hubs like the series trucks. You can tell because they have the same style flanges as the defenders. Either way they still weigh a shit ton and what are you going to fit in the tiny mid engine compartment that is going to have enough power to break tires loose?

Chevy Small block? LR was able to fit the Rover V8 in there, also I think the 5.7:1 differentials would have to be swapped out for something more burnout friendly.

The only issues with tall rover gears is they are weak.. BUT a FC with a sals would likely be up to the task

When my dad trashed the rear axle of his 109, he replaced it with a sals. That is one beefy diff, he was able to chirp the wheels in second gear. At the time he had a 3.0L Ford V6 with a high torque cam.

True if I ever blow up my rear I will probably go that route. The Toyota stuff is also pretty impressive.
And actually GBR is putting a 5 liter into a d90 couple videos on their facebook page. It sounds absolutely amazing BUT I am sure they spent more arms and legs than I have on my body for it.

Hmmm, that is nice but pity it's an auto. If I were to do that swap in my Disco I think the electrics might be a huge pain in the ass.

Off roading? The majority of the time I would pick an auto.

I think a manual is better as it lets you rock your truck a lot easier if you are stuck. I can see a auto being better for rock climbing but it's not that big of and advantage. I have always preferred manual to slush box and the only reason I got an auto is because the only manual I could find was a D1 with a shot motor. The first chance I get I'm throwing a manual into this one.

That truck has these too - first time I have ever seem them - pretty slick setup if you ask me http://www.killeraxles.com/bop_landrover_e.html obviously not going to be as strong as a volvo c303 for 40"+ tires but guys running 35s-37s could have a TON of axle clerance.
In fact they have a lift of 4" so on true 35's you have the clerance of 39's ha sick

Yea it's probably cheaper than actual portals and a lot less work to get onto the truck. They bolt up right to the axle housing.
However I will say the axle clearance from 32's to 35's is HUGE I couldnt imagine having another 4" under my axles. That would be 16" under the lowest part of my diff haha

The nice thing is that with these bolt on's you don't have to worry about the angle of your drive shaft changing. Would you even have to redo the whole front end if you are running standard or 2 inch lift?

No and really you wouldnt even need a lift at that rate depending how how much tire you have cause it moves the hub and tire down 4" from the axle line.
The other nice part about them is that it changes the final drive ratio so you dont have to regear your diffs. The stock 3.54 ring and pinion size is the strongest based on lowest tooth count. So that saves you $600 in gears.
All in all it's a good idea if you plan your build around it.
You should convince your dad to look into this for his series

Yeah, I don't think he's the one that needs convincing. I sent him the link and he already is trying to scheme on how to convince my mom to let him buy 4
