| I have been on LROnly with most of my issues, as I am new to the Club. So here comes my first problem here. Recently did a full front brake job; calipers, discs, and pads. I had a lot of trouble with the driver caliper bolting up properly on the lower hole. I finally got it in, but not in a permanent fashion, I will have to have it welded up for trail use so it does not come out. But since I have been able to drive it I have been getting lots of squeaks, that to me sound like the tie rod rubbing against the rim and it gets loud whenever I turn the wheel to really any angle. Any thoughts would be great as the noise is making me go insane. Thanks guys | |

| Have you checked to see if the brakes are binding? | |

uhhhh so how is your caliper being held in place? You plan to weld the caliper in place?! oh brother......... I am going to be brutally blunt and honest with you.. Take it to a professional and have them look at it. If it started making this noise after you did the brake job and you cant figure it out something is wrong and brakes are not something you want to screw up and have fail on you.

| The caliper is on with 2 bolts, but the lower one would not thread at all. Had my mechanic friend take it to work and grind grooves into it. It threaded in a little then I drove it with a hammer into place it is on there very solid. I think the threads on the axle were done and the bolt wouldn't cut into the cast iron. I think the noise is coming from the front passenger side which went on without issue. When it is nicer and not snowing I am going to pull the wheel and rotate the fronts and see it it still happens. | |

| Just when i thought I heard everything....
Edit... If any rod is hitting the rim, STOP driving the truck it's daangerous If you really used a hammer to drive the caliber bolt in, STOP drivin the truck it's dangerous
People want to help but by what you said, all advice would be pointless.... Sorry, bud.

WTF!!!! Your mechanic friend is an asshole!!! sorry to to be blunt but I've been wrenching on cars my whole life and if some one brought me this problem I would not have sent them away with this hill billy job. Your gonna get your self killed of some one else on the road. STOP DRIVING the car now!!!! If the caliper is binding then its gonna send you into the ditch or another car soon!!! You need to retap the threads for the bolt and put a new bolt in. If your friend was a real mechanic he would have known this. Its not rocket science!!!!! Again sorry for being so blunt, I sure if your not mechanical person thats all good some people just havent had the chance to learn. Take our advice, dont drive it untill you have it fixed please!!!

| Its not that a rod is hitting something while driving just when turning in a parking lot or something like that something rubs on something. And the caliper is not binding it does not pull to any side it stops better than it ever did. I am not a mechanic but I do know a thing or 2 and fix and work on both of my cars. I know this is no "repair" and I would not trust it on rough terrain. And my friend is a dick he could not take 5 minutes to look at it because he had to put tire shine on his Mercedes... I just do not understand why the lower bolt would not go in at all, especially if it had never been taken out before the threads should of been alright. That is why this is so aggravating | |

| Ok, I got a little time to kill so I'll attempt. Problem isn't your willingness to do work, it's what you think you know is right. - JKlee wrote:

When tie rod end is loose it will tighten up when car is in motion cus of drag and caster angles. It will become looser when driving slow, like in a parking lot. Now a loose Trod end will not touch a rim, you have to ignore broken one for a year to be able to touch the rim! It means that it's ready to come OFF, there for a roll over or worse.. Hitting someone like a wife with kids in the car! - JKlee wrote:

Stops better cus of new pads, the movement on that bolt is to small to see on inspection or effect braking. But trust me If you didn't use a magic hammer... IT IS THERE that's what the noise is. Vibration so high you perceive it as break squeal, all brake noises are that! The other mount will brake off, just when. - JKlee wrote:

You alredy know my stance on that... - JKlee wrote:

Well if you ever did any off road you would know that the fastest you usually go is 30mph so your safer driving that thing in the Pines then on the highway, and there fella drivers (mothers with kids in cars) are also in an up-armored monster. Therefor safer from yours!!! - JKlee wrote:

20 years on road rain salt and all the other crap..... That bolt sits in a hole lined with rust! When you brake it loose you take the threads with it, lots of whire wheel and antiseize saves them. But lets be honest how often ANY OF US remember to do it.

But seriously that bolt can be sometimes hard to get back in. I've don't countless brake jobs and wheel bearings. you get the one bolt in and the other seems hard to get in because its either filled with dirt that you just put in there from removing the caliper or rust. They are old trucks. But no way you should hammer it in! Now you need a new axle housing, or tap that shit and drill a bigger whole in your caliper. Maintenance takes time, don't rush it as you can see from the engine above.

| That's a sweet engine.
But I am going to take it over to vader this weekend. Hopefully get it worked out and get back to a moderately quiet drive (good sized exhaust leak). Thanks for your help guys I know it is hard to diagnose a problem from the limited amount I can type but thanks!
