| So as you guys know I have two D1's now
The white 96 105k miles has all of the goodies on it right. Cylinder 8 is still burning oil and chance are it's gonna be a big money fix which will most likely involve swapping in a new engine.
The black 95 168k miles has rotten floors but it's all repairable. Runs great except the blower motor doesnt work so it's cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
SO my plan at this time is to find some space and start taking the 96 apart to access how much of an issue I have on my hands. If I fix that one then I have the back one left over.
I would like a SWB RRC so maybe I will find one that needs an engine and an lt230 and swap it from the 95.
or I could part both of them and put the funds towards a new toy.
so many options I figured you guys would like to throw ideas into the mix. I'm not doing anything with them until January at least cause I am going back to Iowa for Kwanzaa

| How is the frame on the '95? Is it a stick or auto? I'd be inclined to say fix the '96 if the body rot on the '95 is that bad, but at the same time, a '95 is pre-obdII which opens it up to options like a diesel swap and/or making it a tray back... | |

True and true regardless I think I am going to get the 96 back on the road maybe with a little more power. The 95's frame is very nice only some surface rust on suspension components. What I think happened was the windshield was leaking and making it's way to the floor pans which caused them to rust out. I am going to pull the plugs maybe do a compression test and a block test on it just to confirm she is in good health but project #1 is the 96' I thought about the tray back idea, or bobing it and making it into a convertiable with a half cage - I am just dreaming though

| I messaged you on Dweb I'll help with the tear down of the white ones engine. I like to get more mechanical experience with these trucks. Ok for my .02 They way I look at it to swap the engine into the white truck is "1" part going into it. For the green truck you have to fix the floors and then swap in all the goodies you have in the white truck into it. This is what I would do your situation so I wouldn't want to part out either truck so I'd have one for parts. Another route I would go to would part out both save some of the better off road goodies and buy a RRC. | |

Yea I saw that post, pending space I will be pulling the heads in January. I will keep you in the loop. I dont really want to swap the 3.9 with the dizzy into the 96' only because that is my main truck an that engine has 168k - not to say it doesnt run like a tank. I'd rather sell the 3.9 to somebody who wants to keep and rebuild an original 3.9 in a RRC or D90. That way I could fund a rebuild or the 96' or put it towards a rebuilt 4.6 I'm mostly into keeping the 95' for the lt230 for a RRC if I do pick one up. I may also just completely tear it down and put it all into the shed our back or a storage unit across the street once the 96' is done. I think I should probably just take it one step at a time.

Thats still on the top of my list. I got a place to pull the heads now - got a storage space/garage spot right across the street so I am set now.

| if it were me i'd fix the white whale with the motor from the 95. Something about rusty bodies drives me nuts, and there is always more rust than there appears to be. i think opening that thing up could be a big can of worms if i were you, i'd sell me the CDL linkage out of one of them | |

94's and 95's have 3.9l lucas based distributor engines. 96's-99's have 4.0 GEMS based engines. I dont want to deal with distributor getting wet and the 95 even though it runs amazingly still has 168K. If I put something in the white truck it is going to last (and will have a snorkel on it). But let me know if you're serious about the linkage. I have one guy who might be interested in whole truck, but if not I'll sell it to you for fair market price. Ed's way is cheaper but as Brett said it's afro-engineering at it's best.

Ed's method is quite tempting as well. but something about having a peice that looks like its meant to be there is appealing to me.

| Get the new truck patched up half ass and get it inspected. You can pound around in that while you get the white turd fixed.
You can fix the black truck with some tin, a few hundred rivets and spray on undercoating.

Dick lol now that I have a garage space I can knock shit out day and night as long as it's not -30 Let me know when I should bring my engine hoist and engine stand down. I paid about $350 to get my heads done FYI. Gaskets are another $150 I think.
