| You should be selling the new d1 to buy that. Swap the offroad bits off your white d1, and then sell the shell for parts. | |

Yea there are more out there to be had. I'm going to work on the 96' first and see where that takes me. Worst comes to worst I will just part both of them and fund a RRC or D90 project. Maybe import something fun and unique.

| Why deal with 2 problem trucks when you could have 1 good truck?
I would completely swap the whole axles and suspension from your 96 under the rrc. Swap the whole axle assembly, it's easier than pulling everything, and fixes the weak brakes on the RRC. Pull the engine from the 95 to keep as a spare. Your sg bumper, and lift will bolt right onto the RR. Sell the rack off the 96 separately, then sell the 2 d1 shells to randy.
It will take less time and work to swap the suspension and bumper onto the RRC than it will to fix the other 2 basket cases. At this point your "hoping" to figure out whats wrong with your 96. What happens when you've spent a crapload of money throwing parts at it, and spend a hundred hours of time, to find out the engine is shot? Instead of spending money to fix the floor on the 95, spend it on fixing the rrc's tailgate.

Even if I pull the heads on the 96 thats not going to cost me any $$ and isnt going to take hundreds of hours. If I pull the heads and find an easy fix then I saved myself on buying a RRC and swapping parts to it. If I pull the heads and find wrecked block I would rather just part them both myself, yes it will take more time and effort but I will make more money off of them that way as well which means mores goods for whatever truck I pick up. It's going to take me equally as long to pull all of the after market parts off that D1 including suspension arms, sliders, bumper, drive shafts, axles, springs, shocks etc as it would to swap a new engine into the 96 and probably cost the same as a RRC. So at this point I find the only logically solution is take apart the 96 and see what I find.

So at this point I find the only logically solution is take apart the 96 and see what I find. It's not going to cost you anything to take the heads off, but it's going to cost you to put the heads back on. Having the heads surfaced, valve job, and gasket kit is going to cost over $500, and that's an extremely conservative price. And that's with you doing all the labor, which took me a full weekend for disassembly, and another for assembly. But that was with me taking my time, and about 6-8 hrs per day.

Yea but if I find the issue then the $500 is well spent in my opinion. All of that still sounds easier than buying a nice running RRC without a ton of rust for around 2-3k, then swapping what I can and having to sell the other bits and buy new so it will fit. Yes I would probably rather have a RRC at the end of the day but if I am going to go that route I might as well go for something different and fun like a diesel 90 or a series truck.

| They aren't all that agressive...they're just an AT. I'd say sell 'em or run them until they're bald and replace them with a on-road tire. | |

Here you go Ed...http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13742362&postcount=141
IIRC, 1987 was one of the few years here in NA that they had LT230... Not sure if it's technically a lt230 but I know it has a CDL. I think it is a chain driven tcase similar to the borg warners... dont quote me on that though -New head gaskets/valve job ($1900) - wtf? he got screwwweeed unless thats including tons of labor
