| Hi since I had the day off I hit trail out by my moms seeing if I could find anything worth a trip there. The background on the area. It is New Philadelphia in Schuylkill County. It is about 8-9 miles from Pottsville on Route 209. There is an uncountable amount of dirt roads, quad paths ,and endro trails. All these road interconnect the towns in the area I can jump on one trail drive and be in another town in 20 mins. ,you be able to see what I am talking about on the map I made. Some of the "major" roads are maintained by mine-land owners. But there are so many secondary and tertiary trails that see little bulldozing and are left to mother nature. Most of the trails I hit today were major with some secondary I didn't want to get into any trouble I was by myself w/o a spotter or a back up truck. I will hit a lot and try to map most of them this spring with the quad. I knew a lot of the land from when I hunted it about 10 years ago, and had a refresher in '08 when I started to ride, Time, man and nature has changed and graphed the land most of it looks entirely different. Roads we used to hunt that were flat as pavement are now gnarled and rutted by the force of nature over the last decade. Hill climbs I did 4 short years ago are no longer there due to the resurgence of the mining industry. I do know one mine owner and I am trying to get in contact with him to see if he would mind trail riders using his land, which I don't see as a problem I was aloud to hunt there a few years back, I also want to to see if he would cut some new trails. This whole area is very popular with atv riders. Most of the stuff I did today would not be worthwhile for someone that lives out of the area to travel and drive but with further recon. I know I can find trail comparable to Rausch, but that is for when it get warmer out. I am Including Map and pictures to get an idea of what I am talking about.

I am sure there are some out there. Today was a little disappointing was hoping to fine some nice rock and mud. But what I got was ruts I did see some rocks, but a stock truck could easily handle it. I got pissed today after coming over a berm I stopped at an intersection waited for a truck to pass and it was full of trash the guy was going to dump. That is why there are a hell of a lot more gates up than I ever remember. | |
