Thanks Nick Hey Nick, It's either cat, o2 sensor or an exhaust leak. You can tap the cat with a hammer to see if it's collapsed or do a pressure test to see if it's clogged. If you havent done the O2 sensors it would be a good time to try that. And if it was an exhaust leak - you would probably know already. Good luck! Nope - have never had to and dont know if I would either. Seafoam would be a good cheap start. I would say if your cat is clogged then it should be replaced otherwise it will only be a matter of time and the code will be back. I would almost bet it's time for new cats BUT if the O2 sensors are really old they might be bad as well. It's either clogged or the sensor is reading it's clogged and with your truck being a couple years old with a couple miles I'm betting on cats..

Ok I agree laq thinner is scary, either way If its the cat's or 02 sensors it seems to be a pretty penny for either. 4 02 sensors 100+ each or y pipe w/cats 400+ lol, I guess I'll go cats first. I'm the second owner, truck has 110k now, most likely they are all stock parts from 1998

WAITTTT a minute before you pay $400 for cats. Go to discoweb.org - tech section and read the article on welding replacement cats in. The cat he used are $50 each and if you dont weld you can take them to any exhaust/auto shop and have the old ones cut out and new ones welded in.

Ed would likely send you this link
http://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/how-seafoam-induction-procedure-33554/
slightly different for a D1 but you should get the jist of things I lol at this "Other drivers will look at you and wonder why it is smoking so much. Just smile and wave. They will never understand."

| I had that same code on mine a while back. It ended up being an O2 sensor. Try taking the rear ones out and swap them side to side. If the code comes up for the other bank you know what your problem is. | |

I'll give it a try, not sure if it matters to solve but while at idle the truck shakes some. Not a lot but I can see the passenger seat move. Thanks for the replies guys, BIG help.

| I have 2 good used O2 sensors if you need one, they probably have about 1500 miles on them I just had to redo my exhaust and ended up welding new ones in. | |

| You can also use ATF. Pop off the vacuum hose that connects the brake booster to the intake, and stick the tube in the bottle of atf. pretty much the same thing as seafoam. Will make lots of smoke. Or at your local chevy dealer you can buy "upper engine cleaner" which again is pretty much the same thing, but to GM's specs. | |
