| So I am picking up a bumper off Denny and will probably end up fabing a spare tire carrier for it myself unless he cuts me a sweet deal. His is SUPER nice but also pretty pricey. I am thinking simple something simple like the one on the blue jeep in this link http://www.atozfabrication.com/store/Tire-Carrier-Swingout-Heavy-Duty-Hinge-Kit.htmlwith a vertical latch or maybe a latch attached to a piece where the original end caps go http://www.mcmaster.com/#pull-action-toggle-clamps/=h9eo5nA lot of companies are also hinging it on the door so it basically makes it one unit and swings together but most of the weight is bared by the hinge on the end. This is another option and I would be able to do this without having a latch. Any ideas or suggestions? | |

http://www.hlcfab.com/products.php wtf? Why don't you get a bumper like Eddy for a few hundred and WELD the rest of the shit? $750 for a rear bumper is nuts. Then $250 MORE for armor?

Yeah, I know but I thought Ed's rear bumper was sufficient. I want to make my own bumper - a couple laser cut pieces of steel and some welding. Wish I had the time... Why do you NEED a tire carrier? To save the rear hinges?

Yes I want to keep my spare out back. Plus this bumper is BEEFY its made from 1/4" and the mounts are 1/2". Offers quarter panel protection. Plus I like the looks of it more than any of the others out there. Yeah, I know but I thought Ed's rear bumper was sufficient. Decide what hinge your planning on using, and have Denny weld the sleeve into the bumper when he makes it. Or, ask him what hinges he recommends, and have him weld whatever sleeve he typically uses into the bumper.
Ad I would go with a double locking, ubolt latch hinge. Good call on having him weld the sleeve that would make things a lot easier and probably motivate me to finish it once it gets here. I also got an A-bar that was removed from an RTE from Dale (Rovertrader) that will be going on the front to help house some lights. I always liked how those a-bars looked and when I decided the rack was going I figured why not.

| You know, you could probably make a roof rack for yourself for around $250. That is what I priced out steel tubing from mcmaster-carr. | |

Voyager racks build theirs out of 3/4" emt. You could build a rack for much less than 250. It's all the bending involved as to why most people don't bother doing it themselves.

I dont want a roof rack thats why I got rid of mine. I never used it, it made tons of noise and probably didnt help with gas milage. Plus having lights up there was annoying because of the glare and reflection and they were never pointing where I needed them to because the rack was always hitting branches and shit. And I think my truck looks 10x better with out it.
