Camping out the night after the trials event right? Are you going for trail set up? Make sure they give me a little wiggle room. I knw they said this time is just going to be a beginners type course so hopefully Lyle wont get too crazy

I was going to help set up tomorrow but all is well in hand. Should be fun. Be sure to mount your roof racks for this expedition.

Going, camping Saturday night and I may be roof-rack-less by then

The event was great! Courses of varying difficulty, all great. I scored rather poorly until Jensen started running the courses. He actually got a zero on one section. I drove one course in a really cool 200tdi 110. It turned out a friend I had not seen in 20 years showed up in it.
Lots of prizes for the 50/50 drawing and cash was given to first, second and third place. A bone stock ’99 D1 with a first time driver did very well. I drove most of the courses with Jensen, his buddy and Max in the back of my Disco.
After the event my son and his friend went up to the camp area to set up the tent. He drove my truck (Jensen is 11 years old but a good driver). I was still down at the house when my son walked up to me and told me the truck was stuck. He was taking the long way up to camp and decided trying the log bridge – he didn’t make it. I was taking my time to recover him as I was chatting with everyone before they left. Randy and Trevor went up and pulled him out (thanks guys).
The fun started when I jumped in Jake’s truck to head up to the camp site. Mike asked us to wait as Dave (the land owner) had to get the tractor out. He said “Steve was stuck and needed to be pulled out.”
Dave went up the trail ahead of us on the tractor. When we arrived, Steve and his truck were parked comfortably in his campsite. It was MY truck that was stuck! Jensen tried to run the section next to the campsite and hot it high centered on a dirt/rock mound. Dave tried to pull me off of it with his 4wd Kubota diesel and couldn’t. She was stuck. Dave spun around and put his bucket under the ass end of the truck, lifted it up and pushed me forward. I believe Dave had a little fun, lifting me a little higher than needed and the bucket apparently got caught on my exhaust a little – Jake found it hilarious. I put the truck in park and went to get out just as Dave snuck up and lifted the truck up again sending me in to a terror trying to get the truck in gear and moved out of there. Again, Jake almost pissed himself laughing.
I went back and sat down at the fire and relaxed. Jensen drove the course beside the campsite successfully a couple times. Then he asked to drive around the property a bit. I gave him careful instructions to stay off any difficult obstacles. He left for 20 minutes or so and came back - all was well. After a bit a few guns came out and the shooting commenced. Lyle would being out a strange and rare rifle, fire it then drive back down to his house and get another one. Jensen wanted to take the truck out once more so I let him. After some time I got a little concerned. Then sure enough, Jensen and his buddy came walking into camp and reported the truck had run out of gas. No big deal.
Then I got to thinking… I had plenty of gas. Jake agreed, something was up. We walked over the side of the mountain and Jensen started adding more information. He was just driving up the hill and it stopped. Oh, there was a noise too.
We come upon the truck. It was off the side of the trail on a hill. I asked why it was off the road, He said the truck slid off when they were trying to go up the hill.
Why isn’t the back door shut right?
We opened it on the hill and it flew open (the door was about 2” high at the latch when I tried to close it.
I jumped in and it started right up – plenty of gas. I put it in gear and tried to move it. Bang, bang, bang – yikes! I got under the truck and the rear drive shaft was in two pieces – twisted right in half! Jake got his tools and I pulled each of the halves. While under there I saw that my newly installed transfer case mount was ripped. Jake pointed out that a piece of the case was broken off and the mount bracket punched a hole in the y-pipe. Great.
This morning I go to load up the camping gear when I walk around the right side of the truck and saw my right rear door was completely caved in. Apparently Jensen slid off the trail somewhere else.
My truck is all jacked up. I have some work to do. F-me…

Sorry to hear about the carnage Dave. Guess it's time for Jensen to learn how to handle body work. ;-)

Otherwise all I can say to that post is 'DOH!'

This was a lot of fun. I should have stayed Saturday night.

ok.. you win at weekend carnage.

i thought having my bumper bolts sheared off was bad but you take the cake my friend.

Now I'm really pissed I didn't go.

I really wish I had video of Dave picking up the ass of your truck after you were un-stuck. You had the door open one foot out of the truck and the ass end start going up again. Oh god it was priceless

Sounds like you had tons of fun. Maybe i'll make one of these events someday.
