| Picked up a D2 Fuel tank skid from DAP yesterday. I'm pretty sure it won't be here before Xmas, but I'll be turning it over to our resident metallurgist so he can gather ideas for a custom variant while he's out here celebrating Kwanzaa 'his homies'. | |

Waiting.......... My Bad, i thought i posted these. Look how annoying the fit of the bumper is since i bumped t three years ago in the snow. Nothing lines up right. had to trim the headlight finisher to squeeze in on of the new lamps too
Looks good! First picture - You may want to fix your gill as well - sagging in the middle. It looks worse than the bumper... Second picture - How did you get your wheels so far out? Third picture - looks like you installed the shock through the spacer and put my plates under the spacer. Not correct. Coming to the Sands?

Umm lets see, 1) Sagging at the bottom or the top? If you're talking about the separation between the grill and the hood, thats a function of the crash 3 years ago too. All the front end stuff i can't make line up. Two of the screws on the top of the grill are busted out too, so it's tough to keep it tight against the front clip. 2) wheels are far out because theyre on the schuler special, steel spares flipped inside out, ends up giving you like 3" back spacing. So even though i'm rocking jakes old 9" wide tires (which i CAN NOT KEEP FROM GOING FLAT) they stick out like they're 12.5's, i flipped the wheels because the tire lugs wehre rubbing on the radius arms at lock and instead of ajusting the steering stops i took the lazy way out. 3)The spring spacer install is always gonna be a bit different for me, because i have the bootleg lift where i put my rear springs up front and the Toy FZJ80 fronts sping in my rear. so my setup from the top down is your plate on top of the retaining cup with the spacer mounted underneath everything attached to the perch. It's weird and the hardest thing was to get the bolts to fit through three different spaced holes, none of which lined up, it took me and my old man like half a day to thread the bolts. (insert dirty joke about three holes). And now because i have like a legit 3" up front (maybe more) the caster is really racked forward which made it almost impossible to get the shock mounted to the plate becuase you had to fight the bushing which was super squished to the back and wide open in the front because of how pushed forward the axle is, all in all the project was a monster bitch and i want cranked radius arms to fix the caster. 4) yeah, im day triping on saturday but i gotta get these tires to stop leaking air, both the front seem to intermittently go flat from sitting, any one wanna give me a set of beadlocks for xmas?

| Put tubes in the tires. That's probably the only way you'll be able to keep air in them. I told the same thing to Jake before he sold them. | |

(no offense Dave/jake) No offense taken, both of mine run. The white one still ran before I tore it down - it just smoked a lot. Dave is the one who has the truck that dies on the trails. I just ruin brake switches that can be fixed on the trail.

| Ok, OK, Fuck Everybody...now that that is out of the way,
Turf, Looks like you do have the plates installed right. The first picture was deceiving. I had a little trouble lining my bolts up but it wasn't too bad. I hope you could see the benefit of the plates, no?
Get those tires fixed up!

Get those tires fixed up! I think he got them in there right, you see the last pic? Yes, as mentioned above, he got them in right. I can't understand why the holes did not line up as the plates were CNC laser cut and my measurements were off the truck.

| Well it wasn't just yours that caused the issue. Your plates lined up well enough with the retaining cup and well enough with the spacer, but all three together is when it started getting dicey. So it's a matter of your measurement being a bit different than rovertym's being a bit different than land rovers. The bigger issue was that because the axle is rocked forward, it tilts the shock crazy forward too so you need to bend it back to get it in the tower. That compressed the back of the bushing and in order to get the bolt to pass through all three I had to use the biggest channel locks in america and every bit of my 230lb frame to squeeze everything together to compress the front of the bushing so that I could pass the bolt through all three plates. I would never do it again. I just didn't realize how much caster I had. If I had cranked radius arms and the axle wasn't rocked forward I bet the install would have been way easier.
How do I fix the tires? | |

| As for the benefit of the plates I absolutely see the need for them. If for nothing else just to maintain the travel in the shock. And I wouldn't want them sitting down in the spacer, so thanks for hooking it up. | |

Great. I looked for some direction on this and found nothing. People did not seem to know what I was talking about so I just had them made myself. Sorry, no ideas on your tires besides tubes. I have no idea how tubes do with low pressure off road though. I am new to this whole thing - have only been off-roading for a year.

| Well I guess I'm keeping the ARB since really no bites just some trade offers. Anyway started prep'n it for paint and install. Masked off lights and arb logo, grinded down some of the bad rust spots and later this week I'll hand sand the rest, paint and install. Skipped taking down the rack this weekend and wired the lights up instead. Once the bumpers done I'll start sanding and painting that thing. Man starting a new project is fun. My car has been finished for 5yrs now and I was super bored untill now, YAY! | |
